No matter where you plan to go for your vacation, if your trip includes a stay for an extended period of time it’s simply not economical to stay in a hotel. While hotels do allow you to rent a room for months at a time, why should you pay hundreds of dollars per night, on average, for one room when you could pay hundreds of dollars per month for a whole apartment ?

Here are some things to add to your holiday apartment checklist:
- Use a web site like Forrent.com to locate an apartment in the place you’re vacationing.
- Since it’s a vacation apartment, pre-furnished is a must. Think of it as similar to a hotel room: it should be ready to live in the moment you arrive.
- If you have them, check to make sure that kids are welcome before you arrive to get the keys. This is particularly necessary if you have young children who might be prone to running, rough-housing, and slamming doors. Try to aim for an apartment with less proximity to other renters.
- One of the great things about renting a holiday apartment instead of a hotel room or suite is that you have the power of choice. Choose just how big or small of an apartment your family needs to be comfortable during their stay, and you’ll avoid paying for excess space or dealing with too-close quarters.
